Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a clinical assessment required before joining a group or class?

To ensure every participant receives the maximum benefit and that our group environment remains safe, supportive, and productive, NexStep Recovery requires a clinical assessment before joining any group or class. This careful screening process allows us to match you with the most appropriate setting tailored specifically to your unique needs, goals, and current circumstances. By doing so, we create an environment where every member can thrive and feel genuinely supported on their healing journey.

Is there a cost for the assessment?
Yes, the clinical assessment is offered at an additional fee and is a one-time requirement before enrolling in any group or class. We view this as a valuable investment in your recovery. The assessment ensures that your experience is personalized, effective, and aligned with your specific goals, helping to set you up for success from the very beginning.

What happens during the assessment?
During your clinical assessment, you will meet one-on-one with a licensed counselor who will take the time to understand your story, challenges, and what you hope to achieve through participating in a group or class. This conversation covers your mental health, substance use history (if applicable), personal strengths, and any other relevant background information. The goal is to recommend the setting where you will receive the most support, ask and answer any questions you have, and collaboratively build a plan that fits your recovery journey.

How does group cohesion benefit my recovery and growth?
Group cohesion—the sense of trust, connection, and shared understanding among group members—is a cornerstone of effective group work. When participants are carefully matched through the clinical assessment process, it creates a safer and more welcoming space where people feel comfortable being open and vulnerable. This environment fosters deeper insight, honest sharing, and stronger mutual support. Cohesive groups empower members to experience greater personal breakthroughs, hold each other accountable, and build lasting growth beyond the group setting. Simply put, when group members connect well, the healing process becomes richer, more impactful, and more enduring.

At NexStep, we’re dedicated to giving back to the community where every voice matters and every person feels supported on their path to recovery. The clinical assessment is the first step in ensuring that your journey with us is both safe and meaningful. Please reach out if you have any questrions

How can NexStep Recovery help me navigate CPS proceedings?

At NexStep Recovery, we deeply understand that rebuilding trust and reconnecting with loved ones—especially your children—can be both one of the most rewarding and one of the most challenging parts of your recovery journey. These relationships are often the heart of healing, yet they can also feel fragile after the impacts of addiction, mental health struggles, or trauma. That’s why we offer supervised visitation services in a safe, trauma-informed environment designed to nurture and support healthy, positive interactions between parents and children. Our welcoming space is thoughtfully set up to foster connection while prioritizing safety, respect, and emotional support. Trained staff are present during every visit to provide guidance, monitor interactions, and create an atmosphere where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

At NexStep, we recognize that healing is complex and multi-dimensional. Life’s challenges don’t exist in isolation, and neither does our care. Our experienced counseling team provides a broad spectrum of individual and group services that address addiction recovery, mental health concerns, child and adolescent development, as well as marriage and family dynamics. Our goal is to empower you with the tools, insight, and compassion needed to rebuild your life, one step at a time.

We also know recovery extends far beyond therapy sessions. It involves tackling practical, everyday hurdles that can sometimes feel overwhelming—things like getting an ID, securing safe housing, or finding community resources. That’s why we provide case management services aimed at helping you overcome these real-life barriers. While we can’t guarantee specific outcomes, we promise to do everything within our power to guide, advocate for, and support you through these challenges with persistence and care. Our team is dedicated to walking alongside you, helping you navigate the system so you can focus on what matters most—your healing and your family.

At NexStep Recovery, we believe that true recovery isn’t just about surviving or getting by—it’s about rebuilding a life rich with purpose, connection, and stability. No matter where you are on your journey, we’re here to help you take the next step—and the one after that—toward a brighter, healthier future. Together, we’ll move forward with hope, strength, and a shared commitment to lasting change.

Can I access services if I’m not court-ordered or referred by an agency?

Absolutely. At NexStep Recovery, we believe that every person deserves access to compassionate, personalized care—no matter how they come to us. Whether you’ve been referred through Child Protective Services (CPS), Probation, Parole, or you’re seeking help independently, we welcome you with open arms. Our approach is rooted in meeting you where you are, without judgment, and partnering with you to understand your unique story, challenges, and strengths.

Our dedicated team of licensed counselors and support staff will take the time to listen closely and work collaboratively with you to identify the services that best align with your individual needs, goals, and life circumstances. Whether you’re looking for addiction counseling, mental health support, family services, or educational classes, we’re committed to guiding you toward the right resources and programs that will empower your healing and growth.

We understand that everyone’s path to recovery looks different, and we honor that diversity by offering flexible, tailored options designed to fit your schedule, preferences, and priorities. No matter your background or situation, you can count on NexStep to be a steady, compassionate partner on your journey—helping you build the skills, support, and confidence needed to move forward with hope and resilience.

What are your fees and do you offer sliding scale or financial assistance?

Fees vary depending on the type of service you’re receiving—such as individual counseling, group classes, assessments, or specialized programs. We understand that cost can be a significant barrier to getting the help you need, which is why Recovery by NexStep is committed to offering flexible payment options.

We offer sliding scale rates based on income and household size to ensure affordability for individuals and families with limited financial resources. Eligibility is determined through a simple intake process, and we do our best to work with each client’s unique financial situation.

In addition, we are actively pursuing grant funding, community partnerships, and sponsorship opportunities to help offset the cost of services, especially for high-need populations such as those involved with CPS, probation, or parole, as well as veterans and individuals seeking addiction recovery.

Our ultimate goal is to remove financial obstacles and ensure that cost does not stand in the way of someone getting life-changing support. Whether you're paying out-of-pocket, using a sliding scale, or seeking services through one of our nonprofit pathways, we’ll do everything we can to make healing and recovery accessible to you.

What types of clients do you serve?

We proudly serve a diverse community, including individuals referred by Child Protective Services (CPS), Probation, and Parole, as well as those who come to us voluntarily—either through our nonprofit or for-profit programs. Whether you are court-mandated, agency-referred, or seeking support on your own, you are welcomed here with dignity and respect.

At Recovery by NexStep, we recognize that every client’s journey is unique. That’s why we offer trauma-informed, culturally responsive care that meets people where they are. Our team is experienced in navigating the complexities of court requirements, case plans, and family reunification goals, while also supporting individuals who are pursuing personal growth, healing, and long-term recovery.

Our mission is to provide effective, compassionate services that help every client take meaningful steps forward—regardless of how or why they arrive. You are not defined by your past. We're here to walk with you toward a better future.

Are your services confidential if I am involved with CPS, Probation, or Parole?

Your confidentiality is extremely important to us, and we take your privacy seriously at every step of your journey. We understand that opening up—especially in a setting tied to CPS, probation, parole, or other court-involved systems—can feel vulnerable. That’s why we’re committed to being clear, respectful, and upfront about how your information is handled.

Due to contractual and legal obligations, we are required to share certain information with your referring agency, such as attendance records, participation status, and general progress updates. These reports help agencies ensure accountability and support the goals of your case or treatment plan. We do not share your private conversations, personal history, or detailed clinical notes unless legally required—and only with your knowledge whenever possible.

At your intake, we’ll walk you through exactly what is shared, with whom, and why. You’ll also receive and review a confidentiality agreement and consent forms, so you know exactly where your boundaries are and where exceptions apply. Our goal is to build trust and clarity from the beginning, so you never feel caught off guard.

Outside of these specific reporting requirements, your information is kept strictly confidential in accordance with HIPAA and professional ethics standards. We safeguard your privacy with secure documentation practices, encrypted systems, and a culture of respect and discretion.

At NexStep Recovery, we honor your story and your right to feel safe while sharing it. Our goal is to balance transparency with protection—so you can focus on healing, not worrying about who knows what. If you ever have questions about your privacy, our team is always here to answer them honestly and supportively.

What is the difference between the nonprofit and for-profit sides of your center?

At NexStep Recovery, we believe healing should be accessible to everyone—regardless of their financial situation or how they arrive at our door. That’s why we operate through both a nonprofit and a for-profit structure, each designed to meet different needs while working hand-in-hand to provide well-rounded, compassionate care.

Our nonprofit branch focuses on breaking down the barriers that often stand in the way of recovery. Through community outreach, education, and peer-led support groups, we’re creating safe, judgment-free spaces where individuals and families can connect, learn, and grow. We also offer sliding-scale services and grant-funded programs, which are especially helpful for those who are uninsured, underinsured, or in financial distress. Whether it’s providing parenting classes, recovery resources, or trauma-informed workshops, our nonprofit side exists to ensure that no one is left behind simply because of cost.

Although we have a "for-profit" side, it operates on a cash-pay model, we are proud to offer some of the most affordable self-pay rates in the area, making high-quality care more attainable for our community.

While these two sides of NexStep have different funding models and eligibility criteria, they are fully aligned in purpose. Together, they allow us to offer a continuum of care—from outreach and education to clinical treatment and follow-up support. Whether someone needs a free support group or a full therapeutic care plan, we have the infrastructure to respond with integrity, flexibility, and compassion.

At the heart of it all is our belief that recovery is a journey, and everyone deserves the opportunity to take that next step—regardless of where they start.

Will you provide IOP?

At NexStep Recovery, we recognize how vital an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is for individuals seeking structured, supportive care beyond traditional outpatient therapy. We are actively working to obtain certification for our affordable IOP programs tailored specifically for those impacted by addiction, mental health challenges, and military-related trauma.

Our goal is to provide high-quality, accessible IOP services that offer:

  • Specialized tracks for addiction recovery, mental health stabilization, and veteran support

  • Flexible scheduling with day and evening groups

  • Sliding scale fees and grant-funded options to reduce financial barriers

  • Trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment led by experienced clinicians

While our IOP is not yet available, we are committed to launching it as soon as we receive all necessary certifications and approvals. In the meantime, we continue to support our clients through individual counseling, group classes, and assessments.

If you are interested in joining our IOP once it becomes available, please contact us to join the waitlist. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
